Last night I told Matt to find a New Wife.  My only requirement would be that she likes to scrapbook.  I asked Matt to find such a fab gal because I was fairly certain that I was going to die before morning.  Well, it is morning and here I am, not dead.  I’ve had a monster of a cold/sinus thing that started to creep it’s way into my senses last Wednesday.  The wanting to die part was mostly due to a cough that will not let me fall asleep.  I’ve taken massive doses of cough medicine only to keep on hacking away.  It is not a productive cough, it is a dry hacking cough.  My back muscles hurt so badly that yesterday I actually compared the pain to being in labor.  Scary, I know.  And, since I’ve been in labor 4 times I have certain muscles that don’t respond well to strong coughing.  I have one word for this problem -Depends-  I am actually feeling a bit better this morning now that I’ve infused my body with 2 large cups of coffee.  So, I guess Matt’s search can be called off for now and the Old Wife will have to do her best to keep on scrapbookin’.

Just 2 Wheels

On the cusp of turning 5, the Walnut has done it.

Who needs these clunky things?

Training Wheels

Look at him go!

I’ve been trendy this week.  I’m on a Staycation.  I’ve pretty much stayed home.  I’ve got a project list a mile long and I’ve been making some steady progress.  I’m making a scrapbook of my week and I’ll show it off when I’m done.  My sister came to visit today so it was nice to have help while I worked.  We also took a nice little walk.

Walking Shoes

We made it almost to the end before the babies started fussing.  Thankfully we had graham crackers for just such an emergency.

The Pecan turned 6 months old last week.  He is already crawling and just yesterday did this leapfrog maneuver that almost put him into a standing position.  Where did my baby go?  I’m happy to report that he has been just about the easiest baby on the planet.  Some may cry foul as I have alreay had 2 easy babies but the Pecan really takes the cake.   I’m not exactly complaining about the Almond either, he was a pretty good baby, but he wasn’t an easy baby.  The Pecan is on a really great schedule right now, 3 meals, 2 naps, 4 bottles, and 1 really long night of sleep.  That is awesome.  He is also a really cute baby, as you can imagine.  He has a smile that just lights up his whole face.  He is very much adored by his older siblings.  It is very cute when they fight over who “loves” him the most.

The Almond is still not very interested in using the potty but thankfully his other problem seems to have cleared up.  He got some new tennis shoes last week and he loves putting them on all by himself.  He has gotten pretty attached to Sheldon, his bulldog stuffed animal.   He isn’t quite tall enough to pedal his trike but I think he will be crusing on it when summer finally arrives.

The Walnut grew about 3 inches at the end of the winter.  He is starting to recognize letters and sounds.  He tends to be a bit on the sensitive side but he is also a snuggler so that puts him near and dear to my heart.  Just the other day he turned his AWANA craft into a “Jesus Gun” and he chided Matt about using his “Blow Money” for something.  Too cute!

The Peanut is getting excited for her annual standardized testing.  She is like her mom, I guess.  We are contemplating using a different math curriculum next year and she had a blast taking their placement tests.  She also told me yesterday that she was only going to do her reading for school and nothing else.  That’s what I love about Sonlight.  The “work” is 75% reading.  Since she loves to read, it works out pretty well.  Soccer just started for the season and she knows several girls on her team from previous years so that is fun.

Matt is not happy that he can’t ride his bike to work today or tomorrow.  The weather is supposed to be great.  He has to take the car because the boys are going to daycare at his work since my mom is gone for the week.  Thankfully he still loves his job.  He is busy planning our garden for the year and is looking forward to many months of motorcycle weather.

I’m busy as always.  We’re winding down another year of homeschooling and planning for next year.  The Walnut will be a Kindergartner and The Peanut will be a 4th grader.  I’m hoping to take some time this summer to spend with my sister and nephew while she is on summer break from teaching.   Work has been busy too.  I’m thankful to be employed considering the state of the economy.  I’m blessed beyond measure with a nice house, nice van, awesome husband, and 4 really great kids.  I’m also surrounded by incredible family and friends.  Thank you God.

I have 2 words to share with you tonight.

Pediatric Urologist

Doesn’t that sound fun?  2 weeks ago we had the Almond in at Urgent Care for what we thought was a bladder infection-you may recall the horrors of the cathether story-a re-check last week was inconclusive on the bladder infection but dr. thought his penis might have been infected.  EEWWWW!  But, she gave him another round of antibiotics for an ear infection and potential sinus infection.  Ear and sinus are better now, but OK-still not any better today on the pee front and has actually gotten worse.  He only pees twice a day and when he does his diaper barely holds it.  Sound fun yet?  It only gets better.  Before he pees there is about 30 minutes of dancing and then when he can hold it no longer….a river of pee…yeah, parenting is fun like that.  So, we’re off to the PU (yep, that’s short for Pediatric Urologist) on Thursday morning.  Say a prayer for our little guy, okay.

The nuts all seem to be going through a growth spurt which is only slightly maddening since we are so close to a change in the seasons.  This means I have to drag out all the “winter” clothes in the next size and then when spring/summer arrives I’ll have to pack them all away until the fall.  ARGH!!!!  Why can’t growth spurts come closer to the summer?  For the Walnut, the next size pants are long enough but the waist is too big.  Thankfully, a lot of his hand me down pants have those neat elastic tabs.  For the Pecan, he is fast approaching his cousin’s size so my twinkie and I have to be quicker with the clothing hand-off.  The Peanut has been blessed with a TON of clothes from 2 of our friends and I think she has enough clothes in enough sizes to outfit a set of quintuplets.  I’m really not kidding.  She also has the same pants/waist problem as the Walnut and as she goes up in size those elastic tabs are non existent.  This means she either has super tight jeans (that great hip hugger style that is still all the rage) or we get to see a lot of plumber’s crack.  Oh, such a delight.  Although it is crazy trying to keep up with these growth spurts I know that the day will all too soon be here when the nuts are all grown and gone.  I’ll try to cherish the time that I can while they are still little.  I’ll also continue to be thankful for all the hand me down clothes from friends and relatives.  You are awesome, THANK YOU!

Hubby is sick but thankfully everyone else is fine, I think.  The Peanut had a slight cough yesterday and the Almond was better after a full week of snotty nose grossness.  The Walnut and I survived but hubby is down for the count.  He even came home early from work.  He watched a movie while lying on the couch. I dutifully worked in my office.

I joined Facebook.  That was weird.  Within an hour of joining I had all kinds of friends and made connections with people I hadn’t seen since my last high school reunion.  I’m not sure how much I’ll keep up to date on it but hey it is worth a shot.  As if I didn’t have enough to do already, now I have to update my profile and add flair and try to make witty comments about what I’m doing right now.

Well, I’m back to work FT today.  My morning went super duper.  This new routine might actually work as long as the Peanut cooperates and the Pecan doesn’t change his sleeping schedule too much.  I’m not sure that I’ll like working so late in the day, but if this is what seems to work overall I guess I better suck it up and get over myself.

In other news, the Peanut decided that the Almond MUST be potty trained.  She is working on it all by herself and I say “Good Luck!”  I gave up in early December and figured I would wait a few months.  I think the Peanut has noticed that the other 2 cousins that were born within a month of the Almond are pretty consistently using the potty. (Sorry G, not including the Little Guy here, just the 2 on my side of the fam!-no pressure-ok)  Anyway, I’ll keep you posted.  I suspect the Almond will win but the Peanut is a pretty tough gal so I guess it is time to restock the “potty” candy jar.

I also love ABBA and when you put the two together it’s like magic or perhaps it is just the movie musical Mamma Mia!  Apparently DH didn’t realize that it was a musical and when we sat down to watch it with G & G I he was very troubled when the main character started to sign.  I could sense that he wanted t0 get up and run away but like a train wreck he had to stay and watch.  Click here to find out my personal train wreck.  Did you click? Yes, it is sad.  I just can’t help myself.  Anyway, sorry for the segue, back to Pierce.   The movie was quite enjoyable even though everyone else thought that Pierce’s singing was deplorable.   I was having fun just trying to guess which ABBA song was coming up next.  Then there is a love scene on the beach and something happened to the DVD and a message came up on the TV screen.  “Current Operation Prohibited by Disc”  It was hilarious and will be a treasured moment.  You couldn’t script better timing.  Well, the disc got itself figured out and the movie played on and it was just delightful.  The grand finale has the 3 gals and 3 guys dressed to the hilt in ABBA’s finest.  Sorry, Pierce, but you lost your spandex body a few years back.  You can go back to being ‘007′ any day.  Now there’s an idea for the next Bond film, some ABBA music in the background along with Britney for a Bond girl.  Nah, that will never fly.

My little nuts are the cutest.  I know I’ve probably told you that before but now there is positive proof posted on-line.  Check out my friend’s blog.  I met her through a homeschool meetup and decided to give her some business.  I think that we will use her again!  Didn’t she do a great job?  There were a few good group shots too.  You’ll be getting one in the Christmas card sometime this week.  Enjoy!

In other news, the Pecan slept 8 hours again last night and then ate and slept for another 3.  Oh, how I love a sleeping baby.  The Peanut has also decided that school isn’t so bad especially since I gave her the day off for her birthday yesterday.  The Almond and the Walnut are very much into little legos now-the problem is that the Almond can only take things apart-that makes for a screaming good time-usually the screaming is on the part of the Walnut.  Don’t you just love those boys of mine?
